Critical Skill #2 - Basic Website Maintenance/Design

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

The second skill for a thriving VA practice is the ability to do basic website maintenance.

This doesn’t mean you have to be a web designer by any means (I certainly am not)… what it means is that you are able to create simple webpages such at the one at http://www.growyourvabiz.com/. You are able to insert graphics, format text and set up simple subscribe forms to name a few specific skills.

For some of us the thought of doing any kind of webpage maintenance can be a bit daunting, however I assure you it is easier than you think. With a web editor such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver, this can be surprisingly simple to learn in a short time.

By offering web maintenance skills as part of your VA services, you can save your clients the high cost of hiring a web designer. But more importantly, you are able to provide a much quicker turnaround for your clients that most web designers are not able to match.

As an example, let’s say you want to set up a simple list building page such as the one at http://www.growyourvabiz.com/. If you send this project over to a web designer chances are it could take up to a week to get it done, or a few days at least.

I whipped up that page in about an hour.

Imagine doing the same for a client? No doubt they would be thrilled, and you are helping them speed up their time to market which means profits for their business.

This is a Critical VA skill they will love you for…why? Because you are literally making them money as well as saving them money - double benefit to them for working with you.
